What is wafer lock?

A wafer lock is a type of cylinder lock that consists of a series of flat wafers that can be rotated to open or close the lock. Each wafer is spring-loaded and has a series of serrations, or 'teeth,' that align with the key's corresponding cuts or grooves. When the correct key is inserted into the lock and turned, the wafers align to allow the lock to be opened.

Wafer locks are commonly used in low-security applications, such as filing cabinets, desk drawers, and some older model cars. They are also used in vending machines, mailboxes, and furniture. Wafer locks are relatively easy to pick compared to other types of locks, making them less secure for high-security applications.

One advantage of wafer locks is that they are typically less expensive than other types of locks, making them cost-effective for applications where high security is not a major concern. However, they are not recommended for use in areas where security is a primary concern, as they can be easily bypassed by experienced lock pickers.
